Xia Dynasty free essay sample

So Yao executed Gun and recruited Yu. Instead of relying on dikes, Yu had canals dug to divert the water. Digging the canals meant removing a mountain. He did this, and though his hard work his body became unusual. The place where the mountain was removed was called Yus Doorway (PYQ). The people seeing his hard work and success at controlling the canal respected him highly, and he became the ruler of the Xia tribe. Even if this story is a myth, it points toa basic idea in Chinese culture that monumental hard work in obedience to authority pays off. It gives people a doorway to respect and position. The rest of the account about the Xia Dynasty is likewise full of morals. Perhaps these are fables or even parables that were circulated in ancient times such as during the Warring States Period before the Bamboo Annals were written. We will write a custom essay sample on Xia Dynasty or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Another story continues that Yu was called Yu the Great after this feat. Because of greater harvests, the Xia tribe grew stronger. They were able to defeat a rival tribe. Yao gave his rulership to Shun. Shun executed Gun who was Yus father. Obviously, there is a contradiction here. The Bamboo Annals says that Shun rebelled against Yao and imprisoned him there. So the sage King died there. It is fairly obvious that there are different accounts and legends even about the how the Xia Dynasty began. Shun passed the kingdom to Yu the Great and not to his own son. This Xia Dynasty is said to have continued for hundreds of years. The kingdom had up and downs and it expanded. The last emperor, who was named Jie was very extravagant and dissipated. Jie constructed a palace for his favourite concubine and drank all night long. He killed his loyal ministers who criticized him. Then Tang who joined him and defeated lie. Jie then died, and Tang became the leader of the Shang Empire. Even if this story isnt true either, it is reminiscent of the lives of many emperors. For example, the Sui Empire fell to the Li clan who founded the Tang Dynasty because the ruler was said to have lived overly luxuriously, and his rule was harsh, and he killed too many of the people so that the people rebelled. Cixi who was considered the last ruler of the Qing Dynasty squandered a lot of the imperial wealth on luxuries and building palaces and buildings, instead of helping the people of the empire For a long time, a great part of the Western Xia economy was still based on nomad economy with large cattle herds on the wide grassland plains within and west of the great Yellow River bend. More to the south of modern Shaanxi area, where the part of the Chinese population was greater than in the west, agriculture was the main economical tradition. The largest part of the territory was owned by the state or he emperor and was given to farming peasants who in turn had to pay taxes. Most other parts belonged to the Tangut aristocracy and to state officials, but also to Buddhist and Daoist monasteries. Only few peasants and private persons owned larger parts of land, but it was allowed to open up and to new land in mountainous and remote areas. The rulers Li Jiqian and Li Deming supported the construction of irrigation canals that were crucial for the development of a qualified agriculture in arid areas, especially around the capital Xingqing (modern Yinchuan WII/Ningxia). One of these cannels is called Royal cannel of the Li clan] (Liwang qu *Ek). The produced grain was stored in imperial granaries (yucang n). Although far the greatest part of the peasants were Chinese, in the course of time more and more Tangut or other Non-Chinese engaged in farming instead of cattle breeding. A very important and successful economical sphere was the production of woolen products, basing on the large herds. Wall paintings in stone caves depict scenes of daily life and of artisanry and craftsmenship. Iron production was well developed partially due to the permanent warfare with the neighboring countries as well as pottery. Western Xia porcelain did not have the same quality as Song porcelain, but it shows a unique type of decoration. Warfare activities were never an earnest impediment for international trade between the Tangut empire and its neighbors. There existed special frontiers markets (quechang smaller markets called heshi to supply the needs of the own country and to export national products. A special kind of exchange of goods were the so-called tributary presents that the Western Xia presented to the mightier neighbors, either the Liao, Jin, or Song. In turn, the Xia embassadors and tradepeople obtained goods from China, like silk, gauze, incense and medicine, porcelain, lacquerware, ginger, and so on. Except of kettle and depending products like wool, fabric, felt, and leather, the Xia empire exported salt (later prohibited for Chinese import), Jade, honey, rhubarb (daihuang *E), musk, and herbs. Although barter trade was common an wide areas, the Xia emperors had casted (not minted! ) their own coins (god) (of) 7k (water) (Yu) (the great controller) Chinese civilization started around 10,000 BCE, when a group called the Yangshao (yahng show) settled near the Huang He River. Archaeologists have uncovered many Yangshao villages in northern China. In one village, they found the remains of farmhouses, built partly BCE, another farming group appeared, the Lungshan people. Whats Your Strategy for Managing Knowledge by Hansen, Nohria and Tierney

Summary The article by Hansen, Nohria and Tierney explores the strategies of knowledge management in different types of organisations. Knowledge management in business is a crucial aspect of being successful and maintaining the development of the company. There are two different knowledge transition strategies.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on ‘What’s Your Strategy for Managing Knowledge?’ by Hansen, Nohria and Tierney specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More First one is called the codification strategy, which represents an approach towards the passing of the commercial knowledge by means of its codification and storage in computer programs and databases. This strategy makes knowledge accessible to anyone who requests it. The other strategy is personalisation of knowledge, where the information is tied to the person responsible for it and is passed by means of communication. Companies are responsible for making the proper choice of the most suitable strategy. The choice of knowledge management strategy determines the type of people a company hires, the way it serves the clients and the ways its business and economics work. Companies that practice personalisation strategy will transfer the knowledge within the business by means of moving people between the departments, providing sessions of communication through email, telephone and face-to-face, calls and letters are returned quickly. This strategy implies a creative and analytical approach. Codification strategy enforces all the workers to fulfill the databases and send the information and reports to special storages, where all the other workers can find and use them.1 The companies that work with standardised products can rely on codified knowledge, whereas for the companies that produce and sell customised goods, which vary a lot, codification will not be appropriate as it is very limiting. Explicit knowledge based companies should also to reply on codification strategy, as they use standard repeated knowledge. Tacit knowledge, on the contrary, is hard to transmit through databases this is why it needs to be communicated properly face-to-face.Advertising Looking for essay on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Recommendations To my mind, most of the companies today use mixed tactics and employ diverse workers. I think that for the companies that rely on outsourcing and expansion it is important to use both types of knowledge transmission. Personal communication through various courses and seminars will create better understanding and attitudes among the employees, at the same time, when the company operates many branches, some of which are located abroad, it is very convenient to start databases and storages for the knowledge so that the diverse workers can access it every time they need. If we view knowledge as an agent, we will notice that codified knowledge is the one that can perform standard tasks; it is active, but limited, structured and general.2 The companies that work through a repetitive process should definitely use codification strategy; it will save the employees and the customers a lot of time. The companies that develop not by producing the bigger quantities of goods, but through innovations and development have a more complicated knowledge transmission process. For such organisations it would be wiser to employ the codification strategy for the new branches and employees that are not experienced and do not possess much professional knowledge. Such workers should be free to access the basic information from databases. As soon as the new workers gain experience, they will be able to move to the stage of personalised knowledge. Successful performance on this stage requires creative approach to management practices, constant development and promotion, the ability to react and analyse quickly and in various situations. The people working at this stage should be very responsive and professional. Bibliography Abolfazlian, K. Codified Personalisation Strategies How They Are Applied in  Knowledge Management. Batman vs. the Joker Essays

Batman vs. the Joker Essays Batman vs. the Joker Essay Batman vs. the Joker Essay The Oak Grove Football Stadium on Game Night Everyone has the basic psychological need of belonging and purpose. I satisfied this need by supporting my school in the Warrior Stadium every game night. It was in that stadium where I would quench my thirsts for brotherhood and companionship. It was a place of refuge for me. I could escape from drama and peer conflict, into a bigger and broader conflict between rivalries older than myself. In the Oak Grove Stadium we could all Join together In support of the team we loved ND stand united against our challengers. Whether we won or lost we did so together as a community and school. It was there that I learned some of lifes most valuable lessons. The Warrior Stadium on game night was, and still Is, a very special place to me. The band was always the first part oaf games opening ceremony. We would always line up outside the band hall and march into the stadium from there. A drum-tap-off would begin to ready the drum-line and then the booming cadence would begin and with It the band would start the march, In time and simultaneously. The feel of the hard paved road was painful for the first step but when we neared the stadium it began to get less noticeable as my mind entered a state of complete concentration. We marched In as one, never stopping to let the traffic or spectators pass through our line. The lines for the tickets led out Into the road and often as far as the parking lot. A traffic director would always halt the vehicles passing beside the stadium so nothing could interfere with our line. The gates to the field would always be ready ND open on either side of the field, awaiting the band to pass through them on both sides of the field. The drum lines booming cadence was, like our Impenetrable line. Unrelenting and the sounds from the mass of people could barely be heard. As we passed through the gates and on to the field, cheers would rumble the stadium from our supporters with pride. The opposing schools band, already seated on the visitor side, would scowl and Jeer at us as we marched. Sometime even throwing trash at us. UT we showed our pride and excellence by not reacting to their unsportsmanlike-like induct. The feel of the turf was pleasing in comparison to the rough pavement but for the small, black rubber pieces that would hop into our shoes at every step. We moved silently into position on the sidelines as the drum line ended the cadence with a final booming note. Then the whistles from the drum majors would sound, letting us know that it was time to begin the prename show. The march onto the field was one of high-tempo which would bring a heightened since of excitement to the entire structure. Finally In our spots on the field, the whistles would sound once again to signal the beginning of prename. We always began prename with the short fan-fare, followed by our prename tune. 1 OFF Ana teen our almost Ana notational anthem we De sung Dye our c lour n . Nine silence over the field and since of respect was stifling during the songs, and slowly the flag was raised by the Delta Squad. Once the choir was finished, cheers would erupt from the home side of the stadium that showed every ounce of our passion and excitement for the game which would soon begin.

Defining Homogeneous Groups in Education

Defining Homogeneous Groups in Education Homogeneous groups in educational settings is defined as groups of students organized so that students of similar instructional levels are placed together, working on materials suited to their particular level, as determined through assessments.  These groups are also known as ability groups. Homogeneous groups can be contrasted directly with heterogeneous  groups  in which students of varying abilities are grouped together. Also Known As: Ability-Based Groups Examples of Homogenous Groups in Educational Settings When organizing reading groups, the teacher puts all of the high students together in their own group. Then, the teacher meets with all of the high readers at the same time and read a higher book with them, and so on, through the various reading levels that exist in the class. When composing classrooms for the year, a school may group the talented and gifted students into a TAG classroom, while grouping students who have intellectual, emotional, or physical challenges into a different classroom. Students who fall into the middle of the spectrum are assigned to a different classroom. Students may be grouped by ability for specific subjects, but be in a heterogenous classroom most of the day. There may be an advanced math group and a group for students who need more assistance in meeting grade level for math. Advantages of Homogenous Groups A homogenous group can have a lesson plan tailored to the ability of the group as a whole, rather than having to address students with a variety of abilities and needs. Students may feel more comfortable in a group of their peers who are able to learn at about the same speed. Advanced students may not feel the pressure they experience in a heterogenous group to be an assistant instructor and always help the students who are trailing. Advanced students may not feel held back to learn at a slower pace than they can achieve when with other advanced students. Parents of advanced students are often pleased that their child is in the advanced group. This may further spur the child to achieve even more. Students who have lesser abilities than average may feel less pressure when in a homogenous group. They may have felt stigmatized by always being the slowest learner in a heterogenous group. The teacher assigned to such a group may have additional training in assisting students who have special needs or a slower learning pace. Disadvantages of Homogenous Groups There has been a move away from homogenous groups. One reason is the stigmatization of groups of students of lesser learning ability, emotional needs, or physical needs. Some studies showed that reduced expectations for such groups were a self-fulfilling prophecy. Students may be given a curriculum that wasnt challenging and therefore didnt learn as much as they would in a heterogenous group. There have been concerns that minority and economically disadvantaged students were more likely to end up in a lower-level group. Students may have varying abilities by subject and therefore being grouped into a classroom that labels them either gifted or special needs ignores that they may be high-performing in some subjects and need more assistance in others.

Reading Early American Newspapers Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Reading Early American Newspapers - Assignment Example The people of American have always had a voice and proved at this time that they were tired of hereditary politics. The people speak through the election, and this is very clear by Jacksonian ticket aspirants being elected with a majority of votes despite being unpopular among the elite politicians of the time. The nation of America has been very conscious by the type of leader it elects. The article shows the people were judging politicians by their performance and not by popularity. The author laments of bad governorship where leaders are elected by a majority and then after a short while they prove to be selfish and corrupt. However, during the next elections the leaders never ascend to the office. The fact manifests importance of elections in any society. The elections provide the people an opportunity to choose good governance and the leader they feel will deliver. Just like today politicians were very powerful people in the government. The article shows any abuse of office will result into massive voter loss during the next elections. The culture of voting in America is very unpredictable. The famous politicians undermined Jacksonian ticket counterparts, and they emerged victoriously. The only way a politician can win an electoral post is to ensure that he has touch with the people. The leader should be selfless and have the will of the people at heart. The nation is always looking for a leader with the selfless attributes and love of the nation to elect. The nation of America has always been hospitable and accommodates many foreigners. The article shows presence of Irish countrymen during the time of the election. The foreigners were given the privilege of voting. However, they still voted for Jacksons. The act emphasizes on the will of the people to want credible leaders who have their interest at heart. The article explains the importance of democracy and many parties that one can choose in regard to their policy. The early

Luxembourg Personal Statement Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Luxembourg - Personal Statement Example As such they rely on international trade for their agricultural produce. One effect of globalization is that it pushes countries to concentrate on the good or service that they excel in and just import everything else. Through globalization, all the goods of all the countries become open and available for everyone in what is called a global market. As such, if a country finds it hard and expensive to produce a certain good, it would buy it from another country instead. For example, a country with a cold climate like Alaska cannot produce mangoes as such only grows in tropical countries. If it would still insist on producing mangoes, it would have to build a facility with artificial sunlight and heat. This would be extremely expensive. However with globalization, it would be cheaper for Alaska to import mangoes from Mexico or from Asian countries. Alaska can now concentrate on its petroleum extraction, a thing they do best. In our first example, Arab countries produce petroleum products but cannot produce adequate agricultural products for their citizens. Since they need to import agriculture products, they need money. As such, instead of producing just an adequate amount of petrol for their domestic consumption, they need to produce more so they can sell it and earn the money they need for the importation. Therefore it

Eating and Basic Training Essay Example for Free

Eating and Basic Training Essay Sweet Tooth Last year in basic training my battle buddy Brown and I always stole nutri-grain bars and oreos from chow (is what army defines as a time to eat) for uses of eating them and selling them to others. It all started when I was at a breaking point and I felt like needed something sweet in order to live or I wouldn’t make it to see the next day. So I decided to slide a few packs of oreos and nutri-grain bars in my pocket to save for later cravings Basic training was a very good learning experience and I’m glad I decided to put my life on the line and serve this beautiful country. In Basic training sweets was off limits. My training period lasted almost eight months. Can you imagine not eating anything sweet for eight months? I know I couldn’t have. Eating chow, whether it was in the dfac or field chow sweets were always in the mist somewhere. The chow hall served great food and I loved eating there because the food was always hot and it made my stomach feel like it was in heaven. In reality I really didn’t have a choice but to like chow hall food, because of course, I was in basic training. I was forced to like the food. In the chow hall (dfac) nutri-grain bars was served every single day unless they ran out and were forced to serve fig newtons. Field chow was another technique on how food was distributed to us in basic training. Eating field chow was my least favorite. I hated it. The food served is cold and just plain out disgusting. The best aspect of field chow was receiving oreos. On some days I would trade my whole meal just for a pack of four pack oreos. My battle buddy Brown and I wasn’t even friends until we both discovered we were both stealing the sweets from the dfac and field chow. Eventually we decided to work together as a team in order to get the sweets we wanted. We became do good at obtaining the sweets; we chose to keep stealing them. Later on, others started to see my battle and I activity and in order not to get caught we had to find a way to satisfy the needs of others so if we didn’t eat some of oreos and nutri-grain bars we decided to sell them. You can never go wrong by trying to make money. Have you heard of the saying â€Å"more money more problems? † In my situation dealing with the sweets, that is a very true statement. Once my battle Brown and I got to use to taking what we want and making a profit that’s when the problems started to arise. We felt the means of as we were getting watched. My battle and I decided to lay low. Just an average day at the gun range it was getting close to winding down time. Field chow was already served and after we leave the range, it was back to the barracks. Always at the end of the day at a gun range we all go through a process called shake down (which a drill sergeants pants you down and make sure no ammunition is in our pockets or on us). Let’s not forget I had nutri-grain bars and oreos in my pockets from previous chows. Drill Sergeant slowly approaches me. â€Å"Private ima need for you to empty out all your pockets. † Nervously standing there almost about to pee in my pants I didn’t know what to do. I quickly replied in a trembling voice, â€Å"Yes Drill Sergeant. † As I went about emptying my pockets all you see are oreos and nutri-grain bars flowing from my pocket onto the ground. I was so embarrassed. I knew I was in big trouble. Having those items on me was considered contraband. Having contraband in basic training is a serious offence and could cause you to get kicked out basic training. I told the drill sergeants everything and the reason why I had the contraband on me. It was my problem and whatever the consequences were I was ready to take forth the responsibility for my actions. â€Å"Private you already know what to do, FRONT LEANING REST POSITION MOVE! † the drill sergeant yelled with no hesitation. Being in the front leaning rest position is the worst possible position to be in. It is a position where you are in the process of about to begin pushups. In that same positions for long periods of time suck. And I had to embrace the suck because I chose to have contraband. Honestly sure does get you a long way. In my situation it got me very far. If I would have lied to my drill sergeants by saying I didn’t know where the contraband came from or didn’t have anything to do with it, I wouldn’t even be in the military today. While I was in basic I really didn’t care about anything and stretching the truth was my specialty. Once I got transformed from a citizen to a solider I looked at life more differently. I left the past in the past and focused on my future and living by the army values. Integrity is one of the military values and I live up to it every day of my life. In Basic training I learned how to improve myself not only physically but mentally also. I practice honestly every day. That stealing incident at basic training made me make changes in my life especially when it comes to being honest. I made a vow to myself that I will never lie nor steal what does not belong to me again. Until this day I am a changed person and I’m proud to say basic training helped me and if I had to do it all over again, I will. I love my country and I will continue to serve it and live up to my army values.

Protecting Ourselves from Media Manipulation: The Use of Alternative Me

Protecting Ourselves from Media Manipulation: The Use of Alternative Media as an Information Source As far as one can recall the media has had a large influence over our perceptions of the world and the society in which we live. Why is it that we blindly seem to believe whatever we hear on the radio, see on the television, read in newspapers and more currently on the internet? The mass media has acquired a great control over the perceptions of how we interpret the world around us, it is only when we allow alternative media to develop and expand to greater parts of the world that we will be able to understand the different perspectives and work towards understanding the truth. There have been past reports on alien invasions, attacks made by giant worms and other exaggerated or made-up stories. Many of these events or attacks were based on popular fears during the time. This can also be seen during the â€Å"Red Scare†. Americans were afraid of being attacked by communists and were constantly afraid of spies thus, they proceeded to name anyone or anything a communist if they did not respond in the way that they had anticipated. These fears were manipulated by the mass media creating further anxiety. Plausibility and timing are equally as important in creating stories or news that can result in anxiety and fear. To fully deceive the public there has to be a plausible story occurring at the right time and place. In our post 9/11 world, where many people are already feeling on the edge it is important that the media is careful in what they produce, and think about the potential effects on their audience. We would not want to see ourselves confronted with the same tactics as those used previously during the â€Å"... ...acifici, The Moro Morality Play: Terrorism as Social Drama (Chicago: The University Chicago Press, 1986) p. 65, 90. It seems that Klaus has some doubt over the whole issue and reads a book of law, which states that two people can get married in front of a legal judge by signing a document and stating their wedding vows. During the play Violet signs the document with her left hand. And immediately after the marriage Olaf stops the play and declares that Violet is his wife now. Olaf had also taken captive of Sunny and as soon as Sunny is back with Violet she announces that she is a right-handed and that makes the judge declare that the marriage is invalid. After this Olaf runs away but also whispers that he would kill these children as soon as he gets hold of the fortune. Olaf had also taken captive of Sunny and as soon as Sunny is back with Violet she announces that she is a right-handed and that makes the judge declare that the marriage is invalid. After this Olaf runs away but also whispers that he would kill these children as soon as he gets hold of the fortune. The novel ends with children going along with Mr. Paul and the audience remains anxious about the children and their future. Here again Lemony Snicket is able to create dramatic irony and keep the audience glued to the story that is going to turn up in the next books of the series. Distinguishing Bipolar and Bpd Disorders

Distinguishing Bipolar and BPD Disorders Tonjanika Boyd North Carolina Central University Introduction Bipolar and Borderline Personality Disorder are mood and personality disorder respectively, that have had many challenges amongst psychiatrist in differentiation. Not only does the two disorders share several symptoms and associated impairments, there is also continuing debates in the psychiatric literature about whether the two disorders actually represent different conditions (Hatchet, 2010).The following paper compares and contrasts Bipolar and Borderline Personality Disorders and discusses implications of differential diagnosis of the disorders that can lead to long-term effects for the patient due to the fundamentally different treatment each disorder needs. Comparison of Bipolar and Borderline Personality Disorder Bipolar Disorder According to the Diagnostic and Statistics Manual of Mental Disorder, 4th edition Text Revision (DSM-IV-TR), bipolar is a recurrent mood disorder fe aturing one or more episodes of mania or mixed episodes of mania and depression (Antai-Otong, 2008).The bipolar disorders include, bipolar I disorder, bipolar II disorder, cyclothymic, and bipolar NOS disorders. Bipolar I disorder includes one or more manic or mixed episodes, usually with a major depressive episode. Bipolar II disorder includes one or two major depressive episodes and at least one hypomanic episode. Cyclothymic disorder includes at least 2 years of hypomanic periods that do not meet the criteria for the other disorders. Bipolar NOS, does not meet any of the other bipolar criteria. The etiology of Bipolar disorder has been researched and documented for many years and has many theories and perspectives.Causative factors include psychodynamic, existential, cognitive behavioral and developmental and complex biologic and genetic factors (Antai-Otong, 2008). Signs and Symptoms (s/s) of Bipolar disorder varies from the type of episode they patient is experiencing. Major de pressive episodes include a depressed mood or lose of interest for at least 2 weeks and five or more of the following: Significant weight loss or gain, insomnia or hypersomnia, psychomotor agitation or retardation, fatigue, worthless feelings or inappropriate guilt, problem concentrating or recurrent thoughts of death.Manic episodes s/s includes, persistent elevated irritable mood of more than one week, increased self-esteem, decreased sleep, increased, increase talk and pressured speech, racing thoughts and ideas, distractibility, extreme goal-directed activity, excessive buying, sex and business investments (Pederson, 2012). In order to have successful treatment of bipolar disorder, a holistic approach is the best therapy. This includes, pharmacologic and psychotherapeutic interventions. Pharmacologic include mood stabilizers, anti-depressants, anti-psychotics and electroconvulsive therapy. There has been a controversy with the use of anti-depressants for treatment due to its effec t with mood stabilizers. It is not a mainstay, but is still prescribe when they are not sure if it is unipolar or bipolar, but becomes dangerous when switching from a depressive episode to a manic or hypomanic episode (Antai-Otong, 2011). Electroconvulsive therapy is the last resort if the mood stabilizers and anti-psychotics fail or when an immediate intervention is needed. Psychotherapeutic intervention is mostly where the nursing care is used more frequently.Psychosocial and behavioral intervention, both fall under the umbrella of psychotherapeutic treatment and are important for more positive treatment outcomes. If a patient is in the acute phase, the nurses’ main focuses are safety and maintain a therapeutic milieu that facilitates resolution of symptoms and minimizes complications. The nurse also educated the client and family about medications, treatment options and other psychotherapies (Antai-Otong, 2011). Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD)BPD originated in the 19 30’s, when it was used to describe patients who were on the â€Å"border† between neuroses and psychosis. It is the most common complex and severely impairing personality disorders. According to DSM-IV, it is a pattern of instability in interpersonal relationships, self-image, affect and marked impulsivity (Swift, 2009). The etiology of BPD includes, genetic predisposition, family history of mood disorders and maybe related to bipolar disorder, physical and sexual abuse. About 2% of the population experiences BPD and mostly female. The symptoms of BPD are maladaptive behavior learnt to make sense of the world and to manage the persistent negative messages received (Eastwick & Grant, 2005). Signs and symptoms, consists of patterns of unstable interpersonal relationships, fear of abandonment, splitting (love or hate), impulsiveness in sex, substance abuse, binge eating and reckless driving, suicidal gestures, such as self-mutilation, intense mood changes that last for hou rs, chronic emptiness, intense anger and transient paranoid ideation (Pedersen, 2012).Managing BPD is challenging and can be emotionally and physically draining for the nurse involved and other members of the healthcare team. The nurse-patient relationship is frequently confrontational due to the patient difficulty with interpersonal relationships and dysfunctional emotional regulation, which results in aggression towards the nurse. Evidence has shown that people experiencing BPD are more likely to harm themselves than others (Swift, 2009). Treatment of BPD requires an integrated psychobiologic approach that includes, pharmacologic and psychotherapeutic interventions. This combination is called psychopharmacologic therapy. There have been many variations of drugs used to treat BPD, due to limited success. There has been limited success in the use of psychotropic medications in clients with borderline personality disorder. Mood stabilizers, anti-depressants and anti-psychotics are onl y effective in providing relief in the symptoms of difficulty controlling behaviors, impulsivity, self-injurious behaviors and depression (Antai-Otong, 2011).Diagnostic Dilemma of Bipolar and BPD Disorder According to the criteria outlined in the DSM-IV-TR there is a systematic difference between patients with BPD and bipolar disorder. It was found that patients with bipolar II exhibited mood swings that varied between euthymia, elation and depression and mood swings with BPD rotated between euthymia, anger and anxiety. A diagnosis between the two boiled down to how the emotional and behavioral instability exhibited by a client is conceptualized. In other words, a counselor must decide whether the symptoms are best attributed to an acute mood disorder or they are just the latest manifestations of a more chronic problem (Hatchett, 2010). The challenge is not the case of being able to rule out acute episodes of mania, but when assessing the possibility of rapid-cycling bipolar disorder or a mixed episode. The actual definition of rapid cycling is often misunderstood in the mental health community and ruling out mixed episode is even a greater test in distinguishing between bipolar and BPD, due to many patients not having an accurate history of their symptoms. This is important because, according to DSM-IV-TR (2000) â€Å"The individual experiences rapidly alternating moods (sadness, irritability, euphoria) accompanied by symptoms of a Manic Episode†¦and a Major Depressive Episode† (p. 362). It becomes difficult and nearly impossible to distinguish a mixed episode from the chronic anger and dysphoria common to those with BPD. Repercussions for differentiating between the disorders for treatment are evident for counselors who are responsible for creating and implementing treatment plans. Accurate diagnosis is fundamental for effective treatment.A diagnosis of Bipolar disorder is treated with psychoactive medication, whereas for BPD patients, that is not effective as a mainstay of therapy. When BPD is appropriately diagnosed, it encompasses a more holistic approach of intervention strategies, such as dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). Those who consider BPD to be a variant of bipolar disorder contend that treatment should proceed with mood stabilizers and atypical anti-psychotics and those on the other side of the debate recommend an intensive psychotherapy model, such as DBT (Hatchett, 2010).Conclusion Careful consideration to distinguish more accurately the difference between an acute mood disorder and a more chronic and pervasive personality disorder through the diagnostic process is essential. A mood disorder is discerned by distinct episodes of mania, hypomania, or depression that continue for specified periods and a personality disorder is characterized by persistent and rigid patterns of maladaptive behavior and intrapersonal experience that influence areas of functioning.I feel the debate between differential diagnosis of t hese disorders can at least shift towards a solution by considering an overhaul in the definition and placement of mood and personality disorders in Axis I and II. Through Axis II was developed to encourage clinicians to consider more enduring personality characteristics that may impact treatment, as Fowler et al (2007) pointed out, some Axis I disorders are actually more chronic than many Axis II disorders, which are more likely to remit than is commonly believed. Also, I noticed through my research that maybe there needs to be another type of assessment tool created when assessing patients for mood or personality disorders or specific training on how to distinguish between BPD an bipolar disorder to ensure more accurate diagnosis. For the DSM-V now being drafted, proposals have been made to either eliminate personality disorders altogether or integrate theme into Axis I. In that scenario BDP might be reclassified as a mood or impulse control disorder (Hatchett, 2010).Distinguishing between Bipolar and BPD disorder is significant for the patient, treatment teams, family and mental health community, due to the major difference in the treatment plans for each disorder. Recognizing which disorder the patient has is fundamental in positive outcomes as they progress through the proper comprehensive psychopharmacologic therapy. Breast cancer metastases Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Breast cancer metastases - Essay Example The study shows that, breast cancer mostly recurs in the skeleton. However, the bone metastases were mainly discovered in the necropsies of the patients who had breast cancer in thoracic as well as the lumbosacral trunk. One hypothesis of Breast Cancer Metastases is that, the Breast Cancer Metastases is a significant factor that causes death in patients. In more often than not, cancer diseases can be controlled only if metastasis fails to happen. The study of Breast Cancer Metastases was conducted by the researcher to help them know the total number of women affected by the disease. In the article, the authors’ main message is that, breast cancer can be suspected in any patient with the advanced diseases as well as pain in the sterna bone (Uuart, 2005) From the case reports given in the article, the research reveals that, the most serious cancers affecting women are the metastatic cancers. This means that, the cancer has spread from the place where it started to other tissues that are distant from the tumor site. The research also reveals that, breast cancer normally metastasize in the lymph nodes. In 1980, the report of human immunodeficiency virus that causes AIDS is said to be as a result of blood transfusion leading to the general panic for both the public and institution for the United States blood banks. There has been a threat of the global shortages of blood and the fears of contamination have also hastened the attempts of finding a life-sustaining alternative. However in other countries such as France, the physicians make sure that the supply of blood is safe making the chances of contracting the HIV through transfusion to be lower. There are two main issues affecting the blood banks which include the supply of blood and contracting of HIV disease through blood transfusion. The Heart of the Matter There is a big challenge in finding the blood substitutes making the blood to be very complex. The blood substitutes are made up of the blood cells, t he salt as well as other substances constituting of proteins and the vitamins suspended in the plasma. The blood cells such as the white cells, the red cells and platelets have a volume of blood of about 45 percent. The hemoglobin found in the protein is said to be significant in the emergency situations, despite of it not containing the red blood cell membrane. The function of the hemoglobin is to pick up the gases, for example the research carried out recently shows that hemoglobin can transport the nitric oxide which maintains the blood pressure. Lifeblood The blood loss in people usually threatens a significant process. For instance, if someone loses about 40 percent of blood in his/her body, the body is able to compensate it by quickly releasing the red blood cells. This is done by moving the blood away from the nonessential organs to restore the blood volume. Safety in Substitutes Finding of the safety in substitutes has continued to be plagued by the lack of the success. It i s therefore advisable for all the researchers to address the safety concerns which fail to rise for the therapeutic administered in smaller amounts. In most cases, the blood substitutes are usually used for the purpose of blood volume restoring. Despite of all the challenges, the blood subs

Contract law Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words - 1

Contract law - Essay Example However, the restaurant is concerned about the underlying liabilities in the event that clients collide with the skating waiters and waitresses. Another point of concern regards loss of client property whilst at the restaurant’s premises. Following these two concerns, two exclusion clauses could be drafted for the purpose of limiting or excluding altogether the restaurant’s liability under the two aforementioned circumstances. It is fundamental to ensure that the restaurant’s business aspect is not adversely affected by the move. The Caddy Shack restaurant enters into business-client contracts with its clients. It is in the best interest of the restaurant to maintain functional relations with its clientele, even as it strives to reduce potential liabilities under the two circumstances of concern. The exclusion clauses that Caddy Shack restaurant needs will ultimately impose restrictions to its clients. It is also important to highlight that the move is likely to be seen as one that favours Caddy Shack’s business welfare, while reducing its potential liability obligations to the clients. In this respect, these two issues must be provided for and balanced in the drafted exclusion clauses. First exclusion clause: Caddy Shack will not be held liable for any losses or injuries that arise as a result of violation of the rules and regulations within the Caddy Shack restaurant’s premises. Clients are urged and reminded to strictly use the designated client sidewalks to avoid collision with the roller skating waiters and waitresses. The system is clearly marked to ensure that both clients and staff strictly remain in their respective right areas. Eventualities emerging from failure to abide to the set rules and regulations, and the skating system requirements shall not hold Caddy Shack responsible. Moreover, Caddy Shack shall not take responsibility for ignorance and/or negligence arising from

The Areas Of Ecommerce Information Technology Essay

The Areas Of Ecommerce Information Technology Essay Ecommerce is frequently thought just buying and selling through Internet; people immediately think of consumer retail purchases from online companies such as Amazon. But e-commerce involves much more than electronically mediated financial transactions between organizations and customers. E-commerce must be careful as all electronically mediated transactions between an organization and any third party it deals with. By this description, non-financial transactions such as consumer requests for additional information would also be careful to be part of e-commerce (Chaffey, 2002). E-commerce is the swap of information across electronic networks, at any phase in the supply chain, whether inside an organization, between businesses, between businesses and customers, or between the civic and personal sector, whether paid or unpaid (Cabinet Office, 1999). Ecommerce is any business activity that involves the transformation of information through internet. Electronic commerce is exchanging business information, maintaining business relations and conducting business transactions by means of internet and networks (Zwass, 2012). AREAS OF ECOMMERCE Ecommerce is the broad term. Today, e-commerce isnt just reserved for big companies but appealing much anyone can get involved in this (Affilorama, n.d.). It has covered various sectors including health, education tourism etc. some of the main areas where the ecommerce has penetrated are listed bellows: In Education as e-learning In Health as Telemedicine In Travel and tourism: Online Hotel Reservation, Managing trips and vacations. In entertainment: Online movie database, online games, betting sites etc. In Service related areas: E-brokers, E-ticketing etc In Financial sector as E-banking. Beside the above given main areas it also has its impact on various sectors such as E-publishing, Online Auction, Online advertisement etc. TYPES OF ECOMMERCE Ecommerce can be divided into various categories in terms of their properties and type of transaction they perform. Various types of E-commerce are described below: B2B E-commerce Generally, business to business ecommerce is an ecommerce activity performed between the two Business organizations. Here one business collaborate with business partners in real-time and put management of all their processes online from supply chain and purchasing to manufacturing and product development (Btobb2b. 2010.). B2C E-commerce An acronym for business to customer or Business to consumer, a type where a business sells their products and services to the customer directly (Maybray, n.d.). This type of ecommerce is applicable to that business firm who tends to sell their product on internet. Some forms of this type of ecommerce are e-banking, e-ticketing etc. example: Amazon. M-commerce M-commerce referred as mobile commerce is the use of mobiles to perform the business activities. It eventually is B2C commerce but not performed in your PCs or MAC. SUITABILITY OF DIFFERENT PRODUCTS IN ECOMMERCE Some types of products may be more suitable to ecommerce where as some of them may be suitable for the offline market. If we look the trends of some success full ecommerce website like EBay and Amazon, we can find that the digital products such as movies, music, software, games are more sold in this platform. Beside that the products like computer hardware, spares part of automobiles are also sold. But the products which have less value-to-weight, or the product that have smell, taste, and touch components and products that need trail fitting and where color integrity are more essential are less suitable for the ecommerce platform (Ecommerce.insightin, 2004). SCOPE OF ECOMMERCE IN RETAIL SECTOR In January 2011 alone, customers in the UK spent more than  £5 billion shopping online, a rise of  £1 billion on the previous year. With this sharp increase, retailers are falling over themselves to spruce up their web presence and the e-commerce services they offer (Retailchoice, 2011).This growth of ecommerce means that there is a great scope of ecommerce in the retail industry. Referring to the gain acquired by various online competitors, the business firms following the traditional way are also attracted toward the ecommerce platform. This creates huge competition in the online market. STRATEGIES TO BUILD ECOMMERCE WEBSITE There is no doubt in the growing importance of ecommerce website for the retailers. But only creating the website is not sufficient for the business run your business successfully s. Hence for the successful ecommerce business the merchants have to think about various factors that may effects their business. Some main factors to be considered to run business successfully are discussed below. Choice of suitable products. Products are the main part of the ecommerce website. Before creating the website you should make sure that what types of product you are going to integrate in your website. Digital products such as DVDS, Software are more suitable. Similarly, branded an item that doesnt need to be tasted or checked such as branded chocolates, cosmetic item etc. are also suitable. But the product that should be sold within short period and that have a lot smell are not suitable to the ecommerce website. Example: bread, milk etc. vegetables are also not that much suitable for it. An Easy to use shopping cart. The other main things to be considered is the easy to use user interface. Better is the user interface, more costumer are attracted to your platform. Use of more graphics than text is encouraged. Better and secure payment system. Payment and Security is the main thing that a business firm should consider while establishing the ecommerce. There are various options available such as PayPal, Alert pay, Payoneer etc. But among them PayPal is the best option as it is highly recognized, secured and fast. Its alternative may be Alert pay. Fast delivery Delivery of goods to the costumer at a given period of time is one factor that affect the consumer behavior to online shopping. Faster the delivery is of the business, costumers are attracted towards your business. Regular update of your website. Costumers are attracted towards the new items and products daily. The use of same product for a long period of time may change the interpretation of customer towards your site. So, updating of daily new products is important for the business to be successful. Offers and Scheme Offers and Scheme is the best way to attract your costumer towards your business. Providing various types of scheme and offers during the various festivals and occasions is a plus point for the business organization. Certain percentages of discounts on your products are some examples for it. Disadvantages of Ecommerce. Security Security continues to be a trouble for online businesses. Consumers have to sense confident about the honesty of the payment process before they entrust to the purchase. System and Data truth Data security and the fact of the system that handles the data are serious concerns. Computer viruses are out of control, with new viruses discovered each day (GoArticles, 2012). Viruses can cause unnecessary stoppage, backups of file and data, data storage problems, and other difficulties and danger of hackers trying to access files and corrupting records adds more pressure to a earlier complex operation. System Scalability A business develops an interactive boundary with consumers by the use of a website. Finally, statistical analysis verifies whether visitors to the site are recurring customers or not. If the company expects 2 to 6 million shows up, website performance is bound to incident degradation, delay, and ultimately loss of consumers visits (Scribd, 2009).  To stop such problems from occurring, a website must be scalable, or upgradable on a regular routine. E-commerce is not free Till now, achievement stories in e-commerce have enforced large business with profound pockets and good financial sustain. According to Manjeetss (n.d.), small retailers that go head-to-head with e-commerce giants are fighting losing combat. Since in the brick-and-mortar situation, they just cannot battle on price or product offering. Brand trustworthiness is related to issues like this, which is thought to be less significant for online firms. Brands are predicted to lower search costs, maintain and create trust, and correspond quality. A search engine can come up with the best music deals, for example, yet customers continue to flock to trusted entities such as HMV (Sites.google, 2011). Customer Search is not efficient or Cost-effective On the surface, the e-marketplace seems to be a best market, where international sellers and buyers share and trade without intermediaries. However, a closer look signifies that new types of intermediaries are necessary to e-commerce. They include electronic malls that assurance authenticity of transactions. All these intermediaries add to transaction fees (Dart, 2001). Consumer Relations Problems Not a lot of businesses realize that even e-business cannot live on over the long term exclusive of faithful consumers. Products populace wont buy online Imagine a website called furniture.com or living.com, where venture capitalists are investing millions in selling home furnishings online. In the case of a sofa set, consumer would want to sit on it, feel the texture of the fabric etc. next to the sofa test; online furniture stores face a costly come again which makes the product difficult to sell through online (Carolinachair, 2001). Corporate susceptibility The ease of use of product details, catalogs, and other information about a business through its website makes it vulnerable to access by the rivalry. The plan of extracting business intellect from the website is called web framing (Ap-institute, n.d.). High danger of Internet Start-up Many stories unfolded in 1999 about victorious executives in established firms leaving for Internet start-ups, only to find out that their get-rich dream with a dot.com was just that a dream (Albany, 2001). Conclusion Understanding the strategy of e-commerce has became essential while implementing or before implementing e-commerce in industry. Collecting articles, evidences, performing research is the best way to raise ones business. Along with advantages there come disvantages also. So it is very important to develop strategy solutions to overcome the risk arise from implementation of e-commerce.

Part II of Sir Gawain :: Sir Gawain Essays

Text: Part II In this passage of the story.......We find that Sir Gawain is feeling very melancholy and distraught over the events that have shaped the last year of his life. It is the Christmas season, and while most of his comrades at King Arthur's Court are enjoying the warm fires of their castles, he is trudging through the cold mud and muck of an uninviting wilderness. At the end of his journey he ultimately expects to meet certain death at the hands of the immortal Green Knight, and so alone except for his loyal horse Gringolet, Gawain in his hour of need turns to God for divine intervention:Click Here to Hear Gawain "He said his prayer with signs, Lamenting his misdeed; he crosses himself, and cries On Christ in his great need." No sooner has he made the sign of the cross to conclude his petition then before him appears the most wondrous sight. A great castle looms up where a moment before there were only stark mountains and dark mysterious woods. Gawain has never seen such a magnificent structure. In the center of a park more than two miles wide it stood, constructed of stone blocks that shimmered amid bright colored leaves that should not have been in bloom at that time of the year. There was a double moat surrounding immense battlements which had been fortified to withstand an assault from even the fiercest of invaders. Yet with all the barbicans of war there were also delicate spires rising in tiers amid elaborately ornamented gables. So perfect was the image of this estate that it reminded Gawain of "A castle cut for a king's feast". He thanks God and St. Julian the patron saint of hospitality for his redemption from solitude, and approaches the castle over a strange bridge which hangs in the air. On the far side he is met by the most polite of porters. Humbly Gawain asks permission to enter the grounds in order to seek the lord of the castle’s hospitality.

Ordinary persons who may have a predisposition towards certain tendencies could be found out and victimised even though they have yet to commit a crime they have the brain pattern of a criminal. This is the dark side of technology.  More research is needed to determine whether or not there are differences between criminals and ordinary persons. There is room for these tests to be manipulated by either the prosecution or the defence. Which ever team pays for the tests can get the results that they so desire.  Over sensitivity of the machinery needs to be controlled for in the tests in order for their reliability to be increased, and their usefulness enhanced.  More research needs to be done to determine if there are genuine differences between the brains of criminals and ordinary persons.  If the tests are genuinely able to discover differences between criminals and ordinary persons then maybe abnormalities can be controlled for before criminal behaviour is expressed. Deregowski  Depth Cue- Depth cues are (hints, guides, cues) which provide information about the spatial (positioning relative to each other) relationships among objects (three dimensional) in a picture (two dimensional).  Familiar Size- The cue whereby objects, which are further away in the picture, are drawn smaller than objects of the same size which are closer.  Overlap Cue- The effect of a nearer object obscuring parts of a more distant object.  Perspective- This is given by the convergence of lines depicting edges which are parallel in the real world, but which appear to come together as they move into the distance e.g. a railway track. A person using a depth cue will extract a completely different meaning from a picture than will a person who is not using such pictures.  Various drawings of an elephant, an antelope, a person, a tree, a road, some hills and a flying bird were shown.  Empirical Test  The tests are empirical because numeric information was collected. How many persons made different responses e.t.c  These tests involved showing pictures and asking questions.   What do you see?  What is the man doing?  Which is nearer the antelope or the elephant? Methodology The questions were asked in the subjects, native language. This means the results were not affected by confusion resulting from the use of the interviewers language or from translations. They understood exactly what they were being asked.  There was a potential problem with classification. If questions were answered correctly according to western standards it was automatically assumed that they were three dimensional perceivers. This could have impacted upon the results.  The tests may not have been measuring cultural differences as noted but instead, educational and social levels. Evidence for this is provided by persons of better educational and social levels performing better on the tests. Remember children have better access to western culture and education than do adults. Additionally higher educational and social levels provide persons with access to western culture. Deregowski reviewed Hudson’s work and put forward some different opinions. This means the results could have been a consequence of interpretation.  The study includes information from different time periods. The results may have been as a result of this time elapse. For e.g. the info collected from Zambian school children-information was presented from both 1960 and 1972. There culture and circumstances may have changed tremendously during the time elapse.  Adults and children were differentiated. Therefore a comparison could have been made to take into account changes in culture. Note Hudson found that children had higher rates of three dimensional perception than did adults. [note-Deregowski found that both adults and children had difficulties making three dimensional perceptions] Ecological Validity  The Subjects may have been put in artificial categories which were a consequence of the test-three dimensional and two dimensional perceivers.  Persons are not normally required to view pictures under these conditions (circumstances) as existed during the study.  The tests may have been picking up differences in educational and social levels and not culture as was suggested.

Corporal punishment in the home Essay

A 2013 study by Elizabeth Gershoff and her team (cited below) reviewed the previous two decades of research and confirmed that children who are spanked have less gray matter in their brains, and are more likely to exhibit depression, anxiety, drug use, and aggression as they get older. The only positive outcome that’s ever been shown from corporal punishment is immediate compliance; however, corporal punishment is associated with less long-term compliance. Corporal punishment has repeatedly been linked with nine other negative outcomes, including increased rates of aggression, delinquency, mental health problems, and problems in relationships with their parents. Large, peer-reviewed studies repeatedly show that the more children are hit, the more likely they are to hit others, including peers and siblings. As adults, they are more likely to hit their spouses. The more parents spank children for antisocial behavior, the more the antisocial behavior increases. All of the peer reviewed studies being published continue to confirm these findings. A major study at Tulane University, published in Pediatrics  controlled for other factors that have been found to contribute to aggressiveness in children, including the mother’s depression, alcohol and drug use, spousal abuse and even whether the mother considered abortion while pregnant with the child. Spanking remained a strong predictor of violent behavior in the child. As five-year-olds, the children who had been spanked were more likely than the non-spanked to be defiant, demand immediate satisfaction of their wants and needs, become frustrated easily, have temper tantrums and lash out physically against other people or animals. (http://pediatrics.aappublications.org/content/early/2010/04/12/peds.2009-2678.abstract) Quite simply, spanking produces WORSE behavior, not better behavior. It also begets more violence, because hitting children teaches them that it is acceptable to hit others who are smaller and weaker. â€Å"I’m going to hit you  because you hit your sister† is a hypocrisy not lost on children. As every parent knows, kids do what we do, not what we say. I strongly believe that permissiveness without limits creates children who are unhappy, undisciplined, and impossible to live with. But discipline means â€Å"to teach.† If we’re serious about raising good kids, we need to use methods that teach kids to manage themselves. Spanking does not do that. Instead, it teaches kids to be afraid of us, which is no basis for love. It teaches them to be sneaky so they won’t be caught doing something wrong. It teaches kids that they are bad, so they are more likely to behave badly. It teaches kids to use violence when they want to solve a problem. And it keeps them from taking responsibility to improve their own behavior, because they â€Å"externalize the locus of control,† which means they only behave because an authority figure makes them, rather than behaving because they want to. I haven’t seen any research on this, but my anecdotal report is that if you talk to people in prison, you’ll find they wer e all spanked. The unfortunate thing is that spanking not only doesn’t work, it is totally unnecessary. When children are raised with age-appropriate expectations and limits accompanied by empathy, they tend to behave and cooperate. Those children don’t need much in the way of discipline at all, and they become self-disciplined adults. (Want more info on how to guide your kids without spanking?) What about Proverbs 23 (Do not withhold discipline from a child)? I’m no expert on the Bible, but here are two articles you’ll want to read. Crystal Lutton: http://crystallutton.com/you-keep-using-that-verse-i-do-not-think-it-means-what-you-think-it-means/ Arms of Love Family Fellowship: http://aolff.org/spare-the-rod/proverbs2 So next time you get so angry you want to hit someone, tell your kids you’re taking a timeout and you’ll deal with them later. Then go into the  bathroom, run the water, and calm yourself down. Use the time to get calm, not to justify your anger. When you come out, tell them you need to think hard about what they did, but right now you need to fix dinner (do the laundry, whatever.) Tell them you need them to be little angels, and you will talk when you are all calm later. Then follow through. Your discipline and teaching will be so much more effective. They’ll learn a lot better when they aren’t in the flush of flight or flight hormones. And you will be so grateful to see yourself becoming the kind of parent every child deserves. (For more on this, see For Parents: How to Handle Your Own Anger.)Elizabeth Gershoff is recognized as the leading researcher on spanking in the United States today. Here’s her most recent report: Report on Physical Punishment in the United States: What Research Tells Us About Its Effects On Children. To Spank or Not to Spank? The idea behind parental discipline is to ultimately create self-discipline within your child. That means the kid has to learn something — your value system and the difference between right and wrong — that will guide him or her throughout life. So what do kids learn from being spanked? The hitting itself doesn’t teach them anything. Whether you believe in physical punishment or not, Dr. Phil has some disciplining tips and alternatives to spanking: To Spank or Not to Spank? Read Dr. Phil’s blog and weigh in! †¢Don’t take out your frustrations while spanking. Ask yourself if the spanking is truly warranted because of the child’s behavior, or whether it’s an excuse for you to have an adult temper tantrum? Are you more prone to spank when you are in a bad mood? †¢There needs to be a sense of calmness and order in the house. If you are spanking your kid for being physical and chaotic, aren’t you adding to the  physical chaos by being physical and violent with your child? What are you teaching them? †¢Make a commitment to your child’s discipline. You have to do what you say you’re going to do. Consequences should be highly predictable for your child. †¢Define your child’s currency. What does he/she value? You can withdraw a positive (take away a favorite toy) or introduce a negative (giving a time-out) event — but be consistent. †¢Develop a child-level logic. For example, kids know that you are less likely to discipline them in public, so that’s where they’ll act out. †¢When you have a confrontation with your kid — don’t ever lose! They will miss out on the opportunity to learn an important lesson if you cave in and let them get away with a behavior that is unacceptable. †¢Two things you should NEVER say to your child if you want him/her to behave are: â€Å"I’ll give you something to cry about,† and â€Å"Wait until your father gets home.† Children can see through idle threats and will eventually ignore them. They will also take advantage of the fact that one parent doesn’t want to deal with doling out the discipline and tries to hand it over to the other parent. †¢Negotiate a disciplinary plan with your spouse in calm waters. Calm parents make calm children.
